Reeva Wouldn’t Want Me to “waste my life” Behind Bars – Oscar Pistorius

In his first interview since the death of his girlfriend, Oscar Pistorius has said that though he deserves along sentence, his late girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp wouldn’t want him to waste his life behind bars.


The former Paralympian spoke to ITV in an interview, to be broadcast on Friday June 24th by 9PM BST.

He spoke about the night he killed Reeva, insisting that the 2013 Valentine’s day shooting was not premeditated.

he said that he couldn’t disagree with people who believe that he should be locked up and the key thown away.

“At times I don’t feel like I should have the right to live for taking someone else’s life. What’s difficult is dealing with the charge of murder,” he said.

But he said he doesn’t want to “waste his life sitting there”. “If I was afforded the opportunity of redemption I would like to help the less fortunate like I had in my past,” he said.

He added: “I would like to believe if Reeva could look down upon me she would want me to live that life.”
